Time & Tide by Alexander Millar

Theres a considered and decidedly Impressionistic feel and visual ambience to the pictorial-establishment of Time & Tide, the very latest compositional piece from the cultured and much celebrated hand of leading contemporary landscape artist, Alexander Millar as observed here. Unveiling a London of yore, predominantly recognized by the soaring, structural presence of Tower Bridge itself, Millar successfully paints his sublime new study in an almost Venetian light, as we imagine the Thames to be one of the other fabled waterways of the world; the canals of Venice, whilst the collection of compact navigational boats seen in the foreground moored up could just as easily be a small fleet of gondolas by adopting the merest of artistic licenses to the viewers observational powers. But it isnt, its London and the River Thames in all its natural and historical glory and prevalence. Enticing and warming use of light, flooding the main spectacle and watery thoroughfare from the horizon, affords fluid and illustratively tempered echoes of a time gone by and ultimately makes for a hugely comforting piece of work.
