I believe my art started from when I was very young. I grew up in a small village in the north of Egypt and I always had the desire to make things. My formal art education began at Fine Art University in Cairo where I specialised in sculpture from 1992-1997. During this time I worked as a fashion designer, interior designer and 3D cartoon designer. After leaving university I set up my own interior design company in Hurgarda, the Red Sea until I decided to move to UK to explore the possibilities of becoming known as a professional artist.
On arriving in North Yorkshire in 2000 I discovered the possibilities of selling paintings and sculpture was much easier than in Egypt. Small galleries took my work and I managed to get some commission work from local people.
In 2003 I got a job as a freelance kitchen and bathroom designer, which enabled me to earn some money alongside working and developing my sculptures. Finally, in 2006 Washington Green decided to launch some of my work hoping to show people the scale of my art.
I remember once my professor telling me that once I left university I would enter the biggest University of Art. I didn't understand what he meant at first until I eventually did leave and understand that 'Art' is between us, it is life, and it is the emotions we share.
As a sculptor I try and capture a single moment in time, which many people fail to stop and appreciate. My tools are my hands and with them I like to create movement and form from shapes and shadows. The spaces around and within my sculptures act as my pencil.
